Charles is a national leader in the application of improvement methodologies, particularly in healthcare, and has a deep understanding of innovation and startups as a lifelong entrepreneur, having founded multiple companies.​

​He is an Affiliate-Advisor with Clayton & Associates in Nashville, a private equity and venture capital firm specializing in healthcare. Recently he co-founded Lean2Law, focused on the application of Lean in the practice of law, and co-founded with other members of The Disruption Lab, LifeFilez, a company providing convenient access to important life documents. Charles also is President of hG4 Solutions and is a Partner and Practice Leader with Press Ganey Consulting.​

​As the Founder of Healthcare Performance Partners (HPP) Charles has overseen the introduction and implementation of Lean and improvement methodologies, performance improvement programs, and quality management systems in over 400 hospitals throughout the U.S, Canada, and Great Britain. ​​

Charles is a co-author of the Shingo Prize winning book, Lean-Led Hospital Design: Creating the Efficient Hospital of the Future, now being translated into multiple languages including Korean and Mandarin. He is an adjunct faculty member in the Belmont MBA program, as well as an adjunct in the Union University BSOL program.  ​

 ​A Six-Sigma Blackbelt, Charles received his M.B.A. from Belmont University's Massey School of Business and is currently completing his Doctorate of Science in Health Services at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, with a research focus on the relationship between improvement methodologies and patient satisfaction.  ​
